Recently, my Mam and I used a sunny Saturday to visit Bayberry Hollow in Tanfield, near Stanley. I was very excited to visit and we weren’t disappointed.Bayberry Hollow is a café and gift shop that opened quite recently and I’ve heard lots of good things about it. It’s in Tanfield, a tiny little village that’s not to far from us and is so cute; I couldn’t believe I’d never been there before and I had no idea how nice it was. The café is a good size with plenty of tables, but it was very busy! We went late afternoon and we were lucky to get a table – I would try and book if I wanted to go for lunch on a weekend. The café looks like it was once an old pub but it has been renovated so well and I really loved how they had kept lots of original features of the old building while making it look clean and fresh with a rustic style. Its a really cosy place with lots of old fashioned, eclectic furniture and my first impressions, before we even ordered food, were very good.
As we visited in the afternoon we’d already had lunch so we ordered scones. I had cherry and almond, which was delish, and my mam had vanilla which she really enjoyed. My mam ordered a pot of tea and I had a gorgeous hot chocolate. They have quite large menu, from sandwiches to pies and quiches, and a good selection of delicious looking cakes. I’m looking forward to bringing more friends or family back for lunch so I can try more of the menu.
Half of Bayberry Hollow is a beautiful gift shop – it is honestly heaven if you love cutesy gifts, homeware, and jewellery. They have a really good selection which is displayed so well – its like an Aladdin’s cave and we spent some time wandering around admiring everything, finding lots of trinkets and things we’d love in our homes.Although I’d heard about Bayberry Hollow I didn’t know what it was going to be like and it really exceeded my expectations. I’m so happy that I’ve found this little place and I can’t wait to go back!
