This week has been a quiet one, we’ve both been working and doing a few bits around the house, but after last week when we were so busy it’s been quite nice to not have as much going on. Saturday was still quiet but it started with Parkrun and ended on a meal out with a friend at Tango in Durham.
Even though I love to run Parkrun and I don’t really get on. It happens at 9 on a Saturday morning and usually I like a lie in, and our local Parkrun is so difficult that I never really enjoy it. This Saturday, however, it was Andrew’s 100th Parkrun so I said I would run too to celebrate. I realised this was the first Parkrun I’d finished since May 2017 and I can’t believe I’d been avoiding it for that long. I used to do it all the time, sometimes at our local run and often at Durham or Chester-Le-Street, but either I just wouldn’t want to do it or work would get in the way. I do think it’s a really good way to start your Saturday and I always feel good once I’ve finished.
The last time I did a Parkrun I dropped out after one lap, our local Parkrun is three very hilly laps, so this time all I wanted to was finish it. I let myself run at a really easy pace so that I knew I would be comfortable for the whole run and not let myself worry about the time I was going to get as I knew I’d be no where near my PB anyway and I didn’t even wear a watch so I wasn’t distracted by my lap times and how bad they might be. I ended up finishing at a slow but ok time, and feeling really happy that I’d actually got up and ran.
On Saturday night I met up with a friend and headed to Tango in Durham for some food and a good catch up. Tango is a restaurant on Old Elvet Bridge that is known for it’s burgers, although it’s menu includes steaks, kebabs, and some good veggie options. Inside, it’s not what I expected at all. It’s in a really old building, that feels a bit like you’re going into an old pub, with low beams, wonky walls and quirky, eclectic furniture and very low lighting so I could just about see what I was eating.I ordered The Tango; a burger with BBQ sauce, cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, burger sauce and crispy onions. I appreciated how it wasn’t enormous, so I didn’t feel like I’d overdone it when I finished, and it tasted delicious with really fresh ingredients. I ordered it with a side of sweet potato fries which were lush and came in a huge portion. I’m regretting now that I didn’t order starters because I was worried I’d be too full but next time I visit I wat to try more of the menu. I know Andrew would really enjoy it here so I’m planning on taking him soon.
Each week when I sit down to write this post I worry I won’t have anything to write about. When it comes to it, though, I always find a couple of highlights that are worth talking about which I think is the whole point of these posts – to document each week no matter what happens, because I’ll always find something good in it.
