I’d just woken up after nightshift and was planning a lazy evening, maybe watching a film with some food, when Andrew text me.
“Do you want to go to Newcastle?”
“I don’t know, I wanted to stay in. Why?”
“We could go to Stack?”
“We’re meant to be saving money”
“Think how good it’ll look on your Instagram”
So I got up, got ready, and we got the bus into town. Stack is a collection of bars, shops, coffee shops, and street food vendors in the centre of Newcastle all housed in, well, a stack of containers. It’s so hard to describe because it’s like nothing I’ve really seen before.
We chose a seat upstairs, there’s plenty of covered areas and heaters, and ordered some food from Texas Smokers. We both had pulled brisket buns with lots of fries, onion rings, and barbecue sauce and it was really delicious. Local bar Yolo have also got a bar at Stack so we ordered drinks from there. The upstairs balconies overlook an open area which was really busy.
After food we had a look around the site and went for another drink at The Enchanted Garden; a pop up gin bar inside a marquee decorated with flowers and little garden huts. There are big picnic tables which are great if you’re going in large groups, or we shared with a few other couples.I really loved how unique the place is as an alternative to your usual bars and restaurants in Newcastle. It’s great as a meeting place before a night out, a date night, or an afternoon out with friends. I really want to go back and try some of the other food places and bars.
I love Stack. It’s such a unique little place but it gets so so busy on a Saturday and I think it’s a tad expensive, but I can see why they charge the prices that they do. Your pictures are great!
